Public Can Now Report a Street Problem in Under 2 Minutes

Street Repairs is a brand new way of linking local people to local authorities, councils, and highway transport bodies on a nationwide scale. It empowers residents to improve their local environment while saving local authorities money on maintenance and administrative costs. https://streetrepairs.co.uk, the publicly accessible, free-to-use transparent reporting and monitoring system, hands power over to local residents by making it easy to report faults and track the council's progress in addressing them.

The Street Repairs website is used to capture information about street maintenance issues such as broken pavements, rubbish, street lighting and potholes. Residents can reclaim local streets and work with their council to keep them clean, tidy and safely maintained.

To submit a report the user simply completes a few simple fields, including the uploading of photos and a brief description of the defect. The built-in geo tracking automatically identifies the user's location and provides exact coordinates which are then overlaid onto a map. This process takes just a couple of minutes and there is no fee to the fault-reporter (normal data handling charges from their service provider apply). Confirmation of the report is sent immediately to both the reporter and the council in question. Regular updates are then made as the report is processed by the council.

Another big advantage is that the system encourages early reporting of problems, when they are cheaper to fix, thus reducing higher costs to councils.

Colin Mahoney, the IT Developer behind https://streetrepairs.co.uk, designed the reporting system to boost engagement between local people and local councils. Evolution of the system is continuing on a daily basis as his team of software developers fine-tune functionality. He stated: "By making the reporting and progress tracking system transparent and freely accessible to the public, residents are now empowered to improve their local environment by flagging faults as the system chases progress updates from the local authorities."

Street Repairs, A National Street Fault Reporting System Is Launched For Locals

Street Repairs (streetrepairs.co.uk), an online street fault reporting system, is now available initially in the UK. The intuitive mobile-friendly website allows anyone with a camera enabled smartphone, desktop or tablet to report street-level problems in as little as two minutes, then check back on progress whenever they are online.

This revolutionary new way of connecting local people to local authorities, councils and highway and transport bodies, on a nationwide scale, empowers residents to improve their local environment, while saving local authorities money in maintenance and administrative costs. The publicly accessible, transparent reporting and monitoring system, hands power over to local residents, by making it easy to report faults and track the council's progress in addressing them.

Colin Mahoney head of PR at Street Repairs designed the reporting system in conjunction with Mark Morrell (aka www.mr-pothole.co.uk), a retired award winning utilities manager to boost engagement between local people and local councils. By making the reporting and progress tracking system transparent and accessible to the public, residents are empowered to improve their local environment, by flagging faults and chasing progress.

Colin Said “With the help of Street Repairs, residents can reclaim their local streets and work with their council to keep them clean, tidy and safely maintained”

He further commented that “Street Repairs is used to capture information about street maintenance issues such as potholes, fly tipping, graffiti and damaged pavements. If it can be repaired or cleaned, then it can be reported through Street Repairs.

Unreported problems make it hard for councils to plan their repair budget and schedule. Over time, these small, unreported faults worsen to become bigger problems. For example, a discarded fridge encourages further fly tipping. Small potholes erode, creating large and dangerous gaps in the road surface, In their worsened state, these problems will be more costly and time consuming to repair”.

With Street Repairs, reporting is made simple and easy, thanks to a mobile-friendly website, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Anyone with a camera enabled smartphone can report a fault the moment they notice it. To submit a report, the user simply goes to the site and completes a handful of information fields, then pinpoints the exact location of the fault using the adaptive mapping feature. This process takes just a couple of minutes and there is no fee to the fault-reporter (normal data handling charges from their service provider apply). Confirmation of the report is sent immediately to the sender by text and email, and regular updates are made as the report is processed by the council.

For councils, Street Repairs offers the chance to make big administrative and maintenance cost savings. All reported problems are available to view on the website, with progress reports attached to each item. Councils are able to cut down on the amount of time spent on capturing duplicate reports, answering resident queries about repair progress, and recording faults reported by telephone and email. Another big advantage is that the system encourages early reporting of problems, when they are cheaper to fix.

Implementation of the system for councils is quick and easy. Since Street Repairs is based on cloud technology, there is no impact on the council's existing IT infrastructure. All upgrades, maintenance and updates are managed by the Street Repairs team, with full training and support available if needed.

Laird Assessors Support Street Repairs

Laird Assessors are delighted to be supporting Street Repairs, which provides a long needed interface between the public and their local council to report issues with their local roads. A mutually beneficial system; the public have a transparent & easy way to report problems as they come across them from their mobile device and can monitor the progress of any work, whilst the council gain an easier way to monitor problems allowing them to control budgets and planning effectively.

Our engineers examine a tremendous amount of damaged wheels, tyres and suspension particularly on bicycles but also on cars, motorcycles and vans. In some cases we have seen serious injuries caused by damaged roads, again with bicycles and motorbikes being particularly susceptible to poor road surfaces and riders more prone to significant injury.

Councils would rather deal with a minor issue before it grows into a larger, more costly problem and Street Repairs provides an effective method for collating a database of damaged roads and street issues.

We are therefore 100% behind this campaign and would urge motorists to take note of streetrepairs.co.uk on their mobiles for the next time they come across a damaged road.
